Gender & AI

Susana Ferreiro Del Río is a Senior Data Scientist at Tekniker, Eibar, Gipuzkoa (Spain). She is responsible for the specialized line of 'Predictive Analytics'.

She received her degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) in 2007 (San Sebastián, Spain). In 2012, she obtained a Doctorate in the field of “Probabilistic models for Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining”. Since 2005 she has been working on national and European projects in Tekniker, in the fields of diagnosis and forecasting, related to different industrial sectors such as manufacturing, machine tools, aeronautics or energy.

Her professional experience focuses on predictive analysis technologies for data processing and analysis, descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analysis. For several years (2014-2018) she has carried out coordination work in the aeronautical field, where she actively participated in aviation projects aimed at the development of health monitoring systems to detect and predict failures of mechatronic systems. She is currently responsible for the line of "Predictive Analytics" in the Intelligent Information Systems unit at Tekniker.

She has had more than 30 publications in congresses and conferences, publications in journals with high impact index and collaborations in books. She has also carried out coordination work on several doctoral theses, e.g., 'Smart analog-digital hybrid power management system for low energy systems which receive energy from photovoltaic cell or wind flow mini turbine harvesters depending on wireless sensor network application field for Industry 4.0' and 'On the use of context information for an improved application of data-driven algorithms in condition monitoring'.

What she likes most about her profession is the opportunity it offers for “the continuous learning and the disparity in areas and sectors in which AI can be applied. Knowing and managing these types of technologies, especially those oriented towards data analytics (from descriptive to predictive analytics), transferring knowledge to small and medium-sized enterprises so that they can evolve and be competitive in today's market, is the most rewarding part".

If you or other women you know are doing similar ground-breaking work in AI, why not put in a nomination here? We would love to feature you as one of our super- WAIROES!
