The European Commission’s DG Joint Research Centre is recruiting two posts in counter drones: Scientific Project Officer - AI/engineering – counter drone and Scientific Project Officer - ICT/engineering - living lab counter drone.
Deadlines for the roles are on 17 May 2021. The contracts for successful candidates are three years and the posts locate in Geel, Belgium.
The successful candidates are expected to have at least 3 years of post-graduate experience in a field relevant to the position (essential). The ideal candidate would have a degree (or a PhD) in computer science or engineering. Expertise in the fields of research, project management and technical analysis is considered an advantage. The job holder should be fluent in written and spoken English (level C1).
The posts suit dynamic and highly motivated computer scientists or engineers who have competencies in ICT system solutions (both hard- and software) and can develop competence in counter drone approaches in the field of security. He/She will: Do laboratory and fieldwork, evaluate technical solutions, help develop solutions, design and carry out scientific and technical research, experiments and developments. For the counter drone part, the person will contribute to establishing a living lab at the Geel site. It is a position that offers the opportunity to participate and shape the Commission's policies in the field in line with the EU Security Union Strategy.
As the science and knowledge service of the Commission, the mission of the DG Joint Research Centre is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. The Border Security activities aim at supporting the Commission efforts towards stronger external borders and improved information exchange, leveraging on the existing competencies on Border Security and related systems.
To ensure the security of the EU external border, it is crucial to understand and address all its different dimensions (Sea, Land, Sky, Cyber) focusing both on people and goods. The Unit equally contributes to improving Transport Security levels in the EU in a growing, and increasingly intermodal transport system by provision of standards, tools and services which can be deployed throughout Europe.
