Sasha Luccioni has been a leader in using Artificial Intelligence to fight climate change. She is leading a project that developed complex neural networks called Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to generate realistic images of the future impacts of climate change.
This project not only advances the current state-of-the art of GANs, but uses them to raise awareness of climate change and its far-reaching impacts. She is now working to create a website and immersive user experience around her tool, to make it have the biggest impact globally.
Sasha's other projects include developing a tool for tracking the carbon emissions of AI and using AI to track biodiversity across North America. She is also a leader in the Climate Change AI group, that brings together researchers in AI and the environment, organizing events, carrying out research projects and making valuable connections.
Her work has been featured in MIT Technology Review, WIRED and the Wall Street Journal. She is also a 2020 National Geographic Explorer, receiving the AI for Earth grant, which recognizes innovators around the world who are using cutting-edge technology to protect the planet.
